He recounted his initial alignment with Pastef’s political vision, driven by admiration for its key figures. However, after the political transition, he declined an offer to lead the water and sanitation sector, prioritizing his principles over political office. « I refused to compromise my values for a position. That decision made my departure straightforward. From the start, I chose the Republic over personal gain, » he emphasized.
In stark contrast, Sakho accused Ousmane Sonko of never prioritizing the Republic, pointing to public statements that allegedly deepened divisions within the government. He cited a controversial remark made while President Faye was abroad in the United States and China, where Sonko criticized the government’s perceived lack of authority. According to Sakho, such comments embarrassed the Head of State and undermined national cohesion.
For Sakho, genuine political leadership revolves around strengthening institutions and enhancing state efficiency. While acknowledging challenges faced by both sides, he highlighted progress in the justice sector as a notable achievement. He also addressed recent changes at the Ministry of Justice, where former Minister Ousmane Diagne claimed immunity from external influence.
