Niamey, July 27, 2026 – High-level discussions among leaders of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) continue as the bloc marks three years since the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP) took power in Niger. Today, General Mohamed Toumba, Niger’s Minister of State for Interior, Public Security and Territorial Administration, welcomed Bassolma Bazié, President of Burkina Faso’s National AES Commission, for an official meeting.
The Burkinabè envoy, in Niamey for the commemorative events, paid a courtesy call at the Interior Ministry, where both officials reviewed critical priorities facing AES member states.
Security cooperation and regional stability take center stage in AES talks
During the meeting, Bassolma Bazié commended Niger’s proactive security initiatives, highlighting efforts to protect civilians and bolster stability both within the country and across the confederation’s shared borders.
Both leaders emphasized the AES’s commitment to deepening cross-border collaboration in addressing pressing security challenges. The discussions underscored the bloc’s resolve to adopt unified strategies to counter evolving threats across the Sahel.

This meeting follows a series of high-level gatherings in Niamey as AES members commemorate a pivotal milestone in the region’s political landscape.
