The southern region of Libya is witnessing intensified security measures as Colonel Ahmed Abu Qila, head of desert patrols, announces a sweeping operation targeting vast areas stretching from Sebha and Umm al-Aranib through Qatrun, Dahaan, Murzuq, and Tajarhi, all the way to the Chad border.
Speaking to Al-Masar television, Colonel Abu Qila outlined the ongoing efforts to map out routes and develop a long-term strategy while establishing a new security post in the so-called “border zone 17.” He emphasized that the General Command is fully committed to supporting the Anti-Immigration Agency, recognizing the severity of irregular migration as a national security priority.
He highlighted that enhanced logistical and technical support from the agency’s deputy commander has significantly boosted operational efficiency on the ground. Abu Qila also pointed to upcoming agreements with allied nations and the acquisition of advanced equipment as key factors in strengthening the fight against smugglers and cross-border criminal networks.
