Diomande opts for Paris
Liverpool has abandoned its pursuit of RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, the 19-year-old winger who impressed during the World Cup. The teenager is now expected to join the Ligue 1 champions. Paris Saint-Germain is confident it will finalise a deal with Leipzig quickly. The German club had initially demanded a massive fee, which cooled Liverpool’s interest as they refused to exceed their own internal valuation of the young talent.
Liverpool turns to Barcola as main target
With Diomande bound for Paris, Liverpool has set its sights on Bradley Barcola. The 23-year-old winger is high on Anfield’s recruitment shortlist. His profile matches what the Reds are looking for in a long-term successor to Mohamed Salah, especially after the successful signing of Victor Munoz from Osasuna.
Barcola’s situation at PSG is complicated. While still highly valued, his future is uncertain due to frustration over not starting the biggest matches. He was notably disappointed not to be in the starting lineup for PSG’s recent Champions League final victory against Arsenal, raising questions about his long-term prospects under Luis Enrique.
Barcola’s exit on the horizon
PSG is not actively looking to sell Barcola but may be forced to let him go this summer. With only two years left on his current contract, this is the last chance for the Parisian club to command a significant fee if the winger refuses to extend. The club will not let him leave cheaply, but it should not block his departure if a satisfactory offer arrives.
Arsenal has been mentioned as a possible destination, but the Gunners appear focused on other targets for now. As the transfer window heats up, Liverpool looks like the most determined club to test PSG’s resolve, especially if Barcola returns from international duty still concerned about his role in the team.
Barcola’s trophy-laden PSG stint
Signed by Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2023 for €45 million, Barcola has since played 152 matches in all competitions for the Parisian side. The attacker has scored 39 goals and provided 37 assists. His trophy collection at PSG includes twelve titles, among them two Champions League crowns and three Ligue 1 championships.
In the World Cup group stage, he scored against Senegal and provided an assist against Norway for France.
