Olympique Lyonnais’ Ligue 1 clash with Auxerre to be scheduled based on Champions League duel against Sparta Prague
Lyon’s fourth-round Ligue 1 fixture against Auxerre remains unresolved, with the French Football League (LFP) yet to finalize the date. The uncertainty stems from the Rhône-based club’s upcoming Champions League qualifier against Sparta Prague in early August. The provisional schedule for eight Ligue 1 matches has been released, spanning from September 3 to 6, but the Lyon-Auxerre encounter is conspicuously absent.
Two potential dates for the postponed fixture
Lyon faces Sparta Prague in the Czech Republic on August 11 for the first leg of the Champions League third qualifying round. A return leg at Parc OL is scheduled for August 19, pending the outcome of the initial encounter. The final scheduling of Lyon’s Ligue 1 match against Auxerre will be determined exclusively by the result of this Champions League tie, as confirmed by the LFP.
A statement from the governing body clarifies:
The Lyon-Auxerre fixture will be definitively set on August 12, contingent on Olympique Lyonnais’ performance in the Champions League third qualifying round:
- If Lyon advances to the Champions League playoffs, the league match against Auxerre will kick off on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 7:00 PM CET on Ligue 1+.
- If Lyon is eliminated in the third qualifying round, the fixture will be played on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 8:45 PM CET, also broadcast on Ligue 1+.
