A tense legal battle has unfolded at the N’Djamena courtroom, centering on allegations of infidelity, marital abandonment, and a disputed bride price. The plaintiff, a soldier deployed in Chad’s high-risk Lake Chad region, returned from duty to find his household in disarray.

The roots of the conflict trace back to the soldier’s prolonged absence due to military obligations. Stationed in the Lake Chad area, he left behind his wife and their three children. Upon his return, the soldier discovered his home deserted. Tracking his wife’s phone led him to N’Djamena, specifically to the Bakara neighborhood, where she was living with a civilian man.

Determined to confront the situation, the soldier traveled from the Lake Chad region to the capital. Once there, he located the couple and promptly involved law enforcement. Police officers intervened, detaining both individuals and transferring them to the Klessoum detention center pending trial.

During questioning, the wife remained resolute in her stance. She declared her unwillingness to reunite with her husband, citing her preference for her new relationship. The prosecutor presented a strong case, demanding strict application of the law against the accused pair. Additionally, he sought a fine of 100,000 West African CFA francs for each defendant. The plaintiff also requested the return of the bride price, valued at two million West African CFA francs.

The defense, however, painted a different picture. They highlighted the hardships and emotional neglect the wife allegedly endured during her husband’s extended absence. They argued that these circumstances justified her actions and called for leniency.

After hearing both sides, the court adjourned the case for deliberation. A verdict is expected in the coming days.
