Ahmat Bedei Toullomi, the head of the Borkou Provincial Council, was taken into custody late Thursday afternoon in N’Djamena and transferred to the General Coordination of the Judicial Police. The arrest occurred inside the premises of the La Résidence hotel, just before 5:00 PM.
This action follows a legal complaint filed for defamation and public insults. According to official documents, the complaint was lodged by Goudje Gueillet Hemchi and Kodou Omari, who allege that Ahmat Bedei Toullomi made serious accusations on social media, claiming they were involved in a cocaine trafficking operation in Chad.
The complainants strongly deny these claims, dismissing them as « completely false, baseless, and malicious. » They argue that the allegations have severely damaged their reputation and personal integrity.
An arrest warrant was issued on August 4, 2026, by the prosecutor’s office at the N’Djamena Court of First Instance, requiring Ahmat Bedei Toullomi to appear for questioning regarding the allegations against him.
Investigations reveal that the provincial council president had previously been summoned multiple times but failed to respond. After more than ten days of unanswered summonses, law enforcement authorities decided to take him into custody to ensure his presence for formal questioning.
Minutes after his arrest, a statement was posted on his Facebook page at 5:10 PM, reading: « Either the Marshal stands with all of us, or the traffickers are stronger than the law. I have been abducted. »
It is important to note that this arrest was carried out strictly within the bounds of a judicial procedure.
