Norwegian development minister visits Senegal to boost bilateral ties
Norway’s Minister of International Development, Åsmund Aukrust, conducted an official visit to Dakar on May 3–4, 2026, to strengthen cooperation with Senegal.
The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Dakar welcomed Åsmund Aukrust, Norway’s Minister of International Development, for a two-day official visit to Senegal. This trip underscores the growing partnership between the two nations and highlights key areas for future collaboration.
During his visit, Minister Aukrust held high-level discussions with Cheikh Niang, Senegal’s Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs, and Senegalese Abroad, as well as Elhadj Abdourahmane Diouf, Minister of Environment and Ecological Transition, Abdourahmane Sarr, Minister of Economy, Planning, and Cooperation, and El Malick Ndiaye, President of the National Assembly.
These meetings focused on critical regional issues, including security and development challenges in the Sahel. The talks also addressed global priorities and multilateral initiatives such as ONU80, reinforcing shared commitment to cooperation. The visit culminated in renewed dedication to deepening ties across multiple sectors.
Norway reaffirmed its appreciation for Senegal’s role as a stable democracy and essential partner in fostering peace and regional collaboration.
