In a heartfelt plea from Ziguinchor, prominent voices are urging President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko to prioritize national unity and stability amid the current political climate in the Sénégal.
Chérif Bouna Samsidine Aïdara, a respected community leader, highlighted the nation’s precarious situation, emphasizing the urgent need for resilience and dialogue at the highest levels of government. Speaking on iRadio, he underscored the gravity of the moment, stating,
« Sénégal is navigating turbulent waters, and our leaders must rise to the occasion. The instability at the top of the state is cause for concern, but it is through collective strength and calm deliberation that we can overcome these challenges. »
Aïdara’s remarks reflect widespread anxiety among Sénégal’s citizens, who are closely monitoring the evolving political landscape. He stressed that the current climate is eroding public confidence, urging both the President and Prime Minister to embody the values of peace and resilience championed during this critical period.
« The Head of State and the Prime Minister must demonstrate unwavering resilience. They must embrace the principles of the International Day of Peace to guide Sénégal toward a brighter future, » he asserted. His call comes as fear grips the nation, with many citizens expressing unease over the lack of clarity in leadership decisions. « What we witness and hear in the media leaves us unsettled. Sénégalais are genuinely afraid. We cannot afford to let our country be torn apart by discord at the highest levels, » he added.
In a direct appeal to President Faye and Prime Minister Sonko, Aïdara emphasized the importance of dialogue as the cornerstone of stability. « For the sake of our nation, let us choose peace over division. The time for unity is now, » he concluded.
