On Saturday, Ousmane Sonko addressed a massive crowd at Linguère, rallying Pastef party militants against the backdrop of his recent dismissal as Prime Minister. His speech was anything but measured, as he launched a scathing attack on the current administration, which he accused of betraying the very ideals that brought it to power.

In a moment that electrified the audience, Sonko delivered a powerful indictment of the government’s performance. With unwavering conviction, he declared: « Senegalese people did not vote for this. They did not sacrifice for this. Lives were not lost for this. People did not go to prison for this. They fought to change the system, but today, it is the same system clinging to power that remains in place. »
His words underscored a growing rift between Sonko and the President, whose policies he now openly condemns as out of step with the aspirations of the electorate. Undeterred by recent political maneuvers, Sonko expressed confidence in an eventual electoral victory, vowing to take the fight directly to the people rather than relying on backroom deals.
« Let him rally all the mayors he wants. Let him form alliances with any party. I speak only to the people, » Sonko asserted. « In democracy, there is only one truth—and that truth belongs to the people. »
