Taiwan has ceased processing visa applications for Moroccan citizens, a move described as a reciprocal measure. This action follows what appears to be Morocco’s global suspension of visa acceptance for Taiwanese individuals, as disclosed by Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Ministry indicated that the Moroccan embassy in Japan recently notified Taiwanese travel agencies about a halt in requests for visa confirmation letters for Taiwanese nationals. Furthermore, information suggests that the Moroccan government instructed its diplomatic missions and consulates worldwide to discontinue such processing, thereby disrupting international travel and bilateral exchanges.
Consequently, Taiwan enacted, effective this Friday, a suspension of visa applications for Moroccans, with exceptions granted only for specially authorized cases. The Ministry has urged Morocco to reinstate convenient travel arrangements and affirmed its commitment to closely monitoring Moroccan visa policy before considering any further actions.
It is important to note that Morocco does not officially recognize Taiwan, adhering instead to the “One China” principle. Rabat maintains formal diplomatic relations exclusively with the People’s Republic of China, meaning no official diplomatic ties exist between Rabat and Taipei.
