The Scientific Group SIGMA and France’s École Supérieure des Agricultures (ESA) have officially launched a significant new phase in their academic collaboration. In Lomé on Monday, June 15, 2026, the two institutions formalized a strategic partnership designed to elevate the training of future agricultural engineers in Togo.
This innovative collaboration will commence with the opening of a Scientific Preparatory Class during the 2026-2027 academic year, specifically tailored for young science baccalaureate holders.
a pioneering pathway for science graduates
Unveiled during a press briefing, this advanced training program is set to prepare students for rigorous agricultural engineering studies. It directly addresses the increasing demands of the agricultural sector not only within Togo but also across the broader West African sub-region.
The joint ambition of SIGMA and ESA is to cultivate professionals equipped to guide the agricultural, food, and environmental transformations essential for Africa’s sustainable future.
“connecting excellence to the land”

Dr. Ingénieur Beaugrain Domongue, Director of Development and Foresight for the Scientific Group SIGMA, articulated that this initiative represents a forward-thinking vision for modernizing the agricultural sector through scientific advancement and innovation.
“Our goal is to connect academic excellence directly to the land, empowering our producers with enhanced innovation potential and dedicating knowledge to the development of our food sovereignty,” Dr. Domongue affirmed. He further highlighted this partnership between SIGMA and ESA as a groundbreaking development within Togo’s higher education landscape.
esa’s pedagogical expertise at the forefront
Underpinning this cooperation, the École Supérieure des Agricultures will contribute its extensive pedagogical expertise. This includes providing established training frameworks, strengthening the capabilities of teaching staff, and participating in academic juries.
The partnership also features an annual “Summer Workshop” hosted at ESA’s campus in Angers, France. This invaluable opportunity will provide students with international exposure and immerse them in a globally recognized academic environment.
The curriculum places significant emphasis on life sciences, agriculture, environmental studies, food systems, and technological innovation. It leverages the active pedagogical methods for which the renowned French institution is celebrated.
a comprehensive five-year journey to become an agricultural engineer
The preparatory training spans two academic years, focusing on solidifying scientific knowledge and building foundational understanding in agriculture, livestock management, and food science.
Upon successful completion of this initial phase, students will seamlessly transition into ESA’s three-year engineering cycle. This comprehensive pathway culminates in the conferral of the prestigious agricultural engineer diploma.

This innovative program is poised to address the growing demand for experts capable of navigating the evolving agricultural sector and bolstering food sovereignty across Africa, contributing significantly to the African economy today.
