During the Eurosatory 2026 defense and security exhibition, Chad’s Minister of National Defense, Veterans, and War Victims, General Issakha Malloua Djamouss, held strategic talks with France’s Minister of the Armed Forces, Catherine Vautrin. The meeting extended ongoing political exchanges between President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno of Chad and President Emmanuel Macron of France.

The discussions centered on reinforcing bilateral defense relations and exploring new avenues for security collaboration. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to upholding each other’s strategic interests and national sovereignty, as outlined by Chad’s Ministry of Defense.

The ministers reviewed practical steps to implement the recent letter of intent signed between Chad and France. Emphasis was placed on fostering a partnership rooted in mutual trust and sustained dialogue to address today’s pressing security challenges.

Chad reiterated its commitment to balanced, mutually advantageous cooperation—key to regional stability and the enhancement of the Chadian Armed Forces’ capabilities. French military officials have expressed renewed interest in securing access to N’Djamena’s air base, which would enable rapid deployment or evacuation operations if required. A Chadian defense official confirmed that French support could significantly bolster responses to emerging security threats.
