Eighteen hours after dusk, armed militants linked to Boko Haram stormed the tranquil village of Kangaleri in Cameroon’s Far North region, leaving eight residents dead and one critically injured.
The assault unfolded just before 11 p.m. local time on Friday in the Mayo-Sava department, plunging the community into chaos. Six victims were killed instantly, while three others sustained severe injuries and were rushed to nearby medical facilities. Tragically, two of those wounded later died from their wounds, pushing the provisional death toll to eight. As of Saturday, one survivor remained in critical condition, according to local authorities.
The attackers, exploiting the cover of darkness, launched a swift and brutal raid before vanishing into the night. Investigators are still piecing together the exact sequence of events and identifying those who fell victim to the violence.
A second assault was reported the same night in Tourou, a settlement near Mokolo and close to the Nigerian border. Militants reportedly looted livestock and goods before ransacking a local market on the outskirts of the town. No casualties have been reported so far from this incident.
Northern Cameroon continues to face relentless incursions by Boko Haram fighters and splinter factions, despite ongoing counter-terrorism operations by Cameroonian armed forces and partners within the Multinational Joint Task Force operating around Lake Chad.
