OGC Nice could not secure a victory against bottom-of-the-table FC Metz, settling for a 0-0 draw. Ultimately, the result had no bearing on their fate as Auxerre and Le Havre both claimed crucial wins, pushing Nice into the Ligue 1 relegation playoffs.
While the draw against Metz might not be the sole cause for regret in their season, it is notable that the Aiglons failed to defeat the league’s last-place team at home, a match that could have significantly impacted their top-flight future. Unexpectedly, Auxerre, who were level on points with Nice before the match, triumphed over LOSC in Lille with a 2-0 scoreline. Similarly, Le Havre, also battling for survival, secured an important 2-0 victory at Lorient.
The club must now fight for its Ligue 1 survival through two crucial playoff matches against Saint-Étienne, scheduled for May 26 and 29. These decisive fixtures will take place just days after Nice competes in the Coupe de France final this Friday against Lens at the Stade de France.
Nice’s immediate focus remains on their next fixture: the Coupe de France final against Lens, set for this Friday, May 22, at 9 PM.
