Recent remarks by opposition leader Ousmane Sonko regarding the holy city of Touba have ignited a fierce response from Senegal’s Minister of Land and Air Transport, Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye. The minister forcefully rejected Sonko’s assertions that illicit funds were funneled into the religious hub, calling the claims a blatant affront to the city’s spiritual integrity and the dignity of its people.
In a strongly worded statement, Ndiaye condemned the accusations, emphasizing that associating Touba with money laundering represents a profound disrespect not only to the city but to the core values of Mouridism. « Linking Touba to money laundering is an egregious insult to the sacred city, its residents, and the teachings of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, » he declared.
