Chad and Burkina Faso unite to tackle Sahel terrorism
The escalating security crisis in the Sahel has prompted Chad and Burkina Faso to take decisive action by reinforcing their defense collaboration. On Thursday, high-level discussions in Ouagadougou marked a significant step toward strengthening bilateral ties in combating terrorism.
A senior delegation from Chad’s Ministry of Public Security and Immigration, led by Police Commissioner Mahamat Ibrahim Man Man, met with Burkina Faso’s Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana, the day before. The talks centered on expanding joint security efforts, particularly in counterterrorism initiatives, as outlined in a statement from Chad’s ministry.
Mbaï-Naïssem Isaac Chamir, Legal Advisor to Chad’s Minister of Public Security and delegation member, described the meeting as a preparatory step ahead of a high-level joint commission. This commission will focus on deepening security cooperation between the two nations against the shared threat of terrorism.
Building on shared history and experience
According to Chamir, this initiative reflects both countries’ commitment to leveraging their common history and operational expertise to develop a security framework tailored to current challenges. The discussions emphasized mutual respect for national sovereignty while fostering a robust and sustainable partnership.
Following the productive exchanges, Chamir expressed optimism that this momentum would lead to a lasting security alliance.
