In a press release issued on September 18, the NGO Open Doors called on Christians worldwide to pray for Oumar, a victim of Boko Haram persecution in Cameroon’s Far North.
Ranked 37th in Open Doors’ 2026 World Watch List of Christian persecution, Cameroon is increasingly gripped by violence, especially in its Far North region. There, extremist groups such as Boko Haram and ISWAP pose a threat to Christians. These groups “threaten, abduct and forcibly convert Christians to Islam,” the organisation reports.
Oumar, whose story was shared by the NGO in an article published on September 18, fell victim to a Boko Haram attack last January. Assailants stormed his village and killed more than twelve people, including the brother of his neighbour, a father of seven.
“After they took me out of the town, I told them I would not go with them. I called for help, and that’s when they shot me,” testified the 20-year-old. Wounded in the leg, he was rushed to hospital before undergoing surgery. However, the bullet could not be extracted by the medical team, causing Oumar ongoing suffering.
“I am waiting for God to help me in my suffering.”
Open Doors shared three prayer intentions for Oumar with Christians around the world: thanking God for protecting him from “this devastating attack,” asking Him to heal him completely as he continues to receive medical care, and also praying for “peace and deliverance throughout the Far North region of Cameroon.”
