The upcoming clash between Olympique Lyonnais (OL) and AJ Auxerre remains the only fixture still awaiting confirmation. The French Football League (LFP) has clarified that the match date will hinge on OL’s performance in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round.
Two possible dates depending on Lyon’s Champions League fate
If Olympique Lyonnais secures a place in the Champions League play-offs, the Ligue 1 showdown against Auxerre will take place on Friday, September 4 at 7:00 PM local time.
In the event of elimination from the Champions League qualifiers, the match will instead be scheduled for Saturday, September 5 at 8:45 PM.
Regardless of the outcome, the fixture will be broadcast live on Ligue 1+, as confirmed by the governing body.
Why the delay in scheduling?
Olympique Lyonnais had initially sought to postpone their opening Ligue 1 fixture to better prepare for a potential Champions League playoff match slated for late August. However, the LFP denied this request, leaving the fixture’s timing dependent on the Champions League results.
